2006 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre
The Vacherons are the "Kings of Sancerre". In excellent vintages, like 2006, they make wines with incredible intensity, minerality and acid that cuts like a knife. This superb wine is imported by North Berkeley Wines. Here are their comments on this wine: "The cousins Vacheron nailed the harvest and as a result, crafted a crystalline- pure, citrus-rich Sancerre that echoes the greatness of 2005, if not raises it a notch in flinty freshness. A wonderfully ripe nose reveals Meyer lemons and touches of almonds; the mouth is all white pepper and lemon blossoms dipped in organic honey. Notes of sea spray and stones provide a base for mouth- watering waves of freshly squeezed blood orange and grapefruit juice. Fresh and balanced; a gorgeous Sancerre." $26 per 750 ml bottle.
2005 Michel Sarrazin Givry Sous La Roche
2005 may be the finest vintage ever for "Village" level red Burgundy. The 2005 Michel Sarrazin Givry Sous La Roche is an excellent red Burgundy that shows lovely fruit that does not overwhelm the spiciness of the wine. It drinks wonderfully right now and will probably improve for a couple of years. The value is just incredible!
2005 Frederic Mangnien Mercurey
This excellent wine from the great 2005 vintage in Burgundy has dense, dark cherry fruit, a lovely mouthfeel and fine length and structure. It's very enjoyable now, but also a bit tight. It will develop for up to ten years. A superb value!
