2005 Amavi Semillon
This intense, lively, interesting white is a perfect wine as a starter for a holiday meal. Here are the winemaker's notes: "Our 2005 Sémillon is gracefully balanced with a complex mix of melon, ripe pear, linden tree blossom and mineral with a hint of tangerine. Intense and rich, yet creamy and zingy, it finishes with lively acidity."
2005 Loose End Shiraz
This is an amazingly elegant Shiraz from the Barossa Valley of Australia, a very warm growing region know for a big, brawny, high-alcohol style of Shiraz. There is a bit of Viognier in the wine, which helps with the aroma and softens the wine nicely. Try this wine with grilled meats.
2005 Kuyen
This is a 55% Syrah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Carmenere blend made with grapes from the Maipo Valley. Kuyen’s grapes are organically grown, which winemaker Alvaro Espinoza believes gives his fruit a superior expression of terroir. The Kuyen blend is aged in French oak barrels, then bottled and aged an additional six months in the cellar prior to release. Only 400 cases were imported to the US. This is a dense, dark, balanced wine that will pair with beef, lamb and duck. It is comparable in quality to California Cabernet Sauvignon wines costing $100.
